About me

Caroline Stevens

I understand that life can be difficult and finding someone to turn to that will offer you time and space to talk without judgement can be challenging. This is where I aim to help. I offer caring, confidential and affordable counselling either in a comfortable working space or via Zoom or by telephone.

What to expect

I believe it is really important therapeutically to work in a way which suits your needs. It could be that you only need a brief course of counselling, or an open-ended approach, or that you require therapy which is longer lasting. Together we will discuss what feels right for you.

You can also expect that I will listen with empathy and we will work collaboratively to find a positive way forward for you. The relationship between you and any counsellor you choose is really important as a good one will help you to feel comfortable to talk about your inner feelings. It could be that the events of the past are preventing you from moving forward in your life or that a situation happening in the here and now is affecting how you are coping with life. Whatever your circumstances, I will sit alongside you, helping you to find a greater understanding of your situation and to develop skills which will benefit you now and into your future.

Background and experience

After a career in Education, I trained to become a counsellor and psychotherapist. Alongside my private practice I have worked for the Bereavement Counselling Service specialising in complex grief and traumatic death and currently work at another Counselling agency based in Plymouth.

Theoretical Approach

I am a person-centred counsellor meaning that I put my clients at the heart of therapy. It is a non-directional approach which believes, given the right set of conditions, everyone is capable of achieving what feels right and is best for them. I do not give advice or provide solutions but instead, using the therapeutic relationship we will develop, help to foster trust in yourself to find the answers within. I treat all clients with respect, compassion and dignity enabling them recognise and develop their own strengths and abilities, helping them to lead a fulfilling life.

Professional Organisation

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics.
